Maracajaú is a true piece of paradise on the charming north eastern coast of Brazil. It is no surprise that lately Maracajaú has been dubbed the Caribbean of the Rio Grande do Norte. It has a beautiful natural coral reef covering 13 square kilometres and offers a variety of oceanic flora and fauna second to none. Although attracting increasing investment and with over 150,000 tourists visiting per year, it is set to remain low density thanks to environmental concerns looking to maintain the natural beauty of the area.

Maracajaú is a truly peaceful location which retains much of it's original charm. The fishing industry still thrives and provides the main source of income for the local population. However, Maracajau has caught the eye of an increasing number of tourists which have brought changes to the current economic profile and investors from all over the world are just now revealing Maracajaú’s real potential as a tourist location attracting increasing numbers and making it now one of the most promising beach locations in the state of Rio Grande do Norte.

Its white sandy beaches with crystalline waters, sea-front coconut groves and the natural coral reef only a short boat ride from the shore, make Maracajaú a place of stunning natural beauty. It already offers excellent accommodation and a good variety of restaurants but loses none of it's orginal charm. Next to the village is a large aquatic park that is visited by approximately 100,000 tourists per year and several golf courses are planned for development next to the village over the next five years.

Diving and snorkeling in the parrachos, which are large natural pools that form in the reef at low tide, is very popular and several sunken ships are part of the underwater seascape that can be enjoyed by divers. Other activities range from horse riding, water sports, exciting daytrips in beach buggies along the coastline, or simply relaxing on the beach. The village boasts both a supermarket and a pharmacy and several new restaurants and small shops have opened in the village recently.

Maracajaú is the perfect place to relax due to its idyllic setting, the climate with its constant breeze and dry, equatorial trade winds, the people, the food and the low prices. However, neighbouring Natal with its 800.000 inhabitants has nightlife, shopping and entertainment on tap and at a fraction of the cost of Europe

Area Information
Located 56km north of Natal, Maracajaú is a peaceful coastal, fishing village with a warm and hospitable population of around 2,500 residents. The popular Ponta Negra is located just a short distance to the south with the most famous landmark of Natal, the Morro do Careca at the south end, offering a breathtaking combination of sea, mountain, dunes and greenery.

Natal itself is located on the extreme northeast tip of Brazil and is the part of Brazil closest to Europe at Cape Sao Roque, 30 kms to the north. Natal is the capital of Rio Grande de Norte.
