Alvor was first inhabited by the Moors from 716 and then by the Christians who conquered it in 1250. Alvor was made a town by King João II, who died there in 1495. The town walls of Alvor were rebuilt in 1300, yet its Castle was destroyed in the earthquakes of 1532 and 1755. It is a very popular holiday location, making it open to a very good rental influx. It still has traces of the old fishing village and is a very picturesque area. There are many bars offering live music and there is an abundance of restaurants to choose from.
