Albufeira is the centre point of the Algarve and one of the most established tourist destinations in Europe. Faro Airport is just 30 minutes away, while the A2 Motorway to Lisbon begins its journey north just outside Albufeira. To complement these road links, trains are available in nearby Ferrerias and the local Marina allows you to arrive by private boat.
The town itself dates back to the Neolithic and bronze ages with several archaeological digs in the area to prove this history. The town Charter was established on August 20th 1504 and is celebrated annually as the date of the municipal holiday. The great earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the town apart from a few remaining buildings which are still there today in the heart of the pedestrian zed old town. Over the past 50 years the town has become the most important tourist destination in the country, attracting people from all around the world to its historic Centre and sun kissed beaches.
The towns 30,000 population now play host to tourist of all ages with something for everybody, with hundreds of restaurants to choose from you will never go hungry; Entertainment from cabaret to RnB, with relaxing Spas to water-sports the town offers something for all visitors.
