Berchidda (3374 pop., 324 m. above sea level - in the Mounts of Limbara) is a village known for the gastronomy , the wine Vermentino ("Giogantinu") and for the festival "Time in Jazz".
Located at the foot of the Limbara (the border between the Logudoro and Gallura) along a steep slope, the village of Berchidda is perched on the highest part of a dense pine forest, where you can admire the valley and the village: buildings closely huddled along the steep terraced streets of the oldest part (on the hill), the central square with the church and the town hall, the public buildings and i neoclassical and liberty buildings (in the centre), and finally the villas with gardens and wider roads and regular (down the hill).
The main square, recently restored, is a nice lookout point over the valley and the peak of Mount Acuto with the ruins of the castle.
As before, economy in Berchidda is based on agro-pastoral activities that nowadays however aim more at the transformation of its produce (winery "Giogantinu", milk plant "The berchiddese", oil mill). Also traditional crafts (iron and wood), and the processing of local cork found new impetus.
The service sector, especially the tourism and hospitality activity, has received a major boost from the cultural entertainment in the village, first of all the international festival "Time in Jazz".
