Area Information
Pamporovo is one of the largest ski resorts in Bulgaria. It is 240km away from Sofia and 85km away from Plovdiv. One can easily get to Pamporovo by bus - there are direct bus lines and of course, by car.

Climate
With its 270 sunny days a year, Pamporovo is famous for being the sunniest ski resort in Bulgaria. The climate here is mild, there are no abrupt weather changes and no strong winds. The snow cover lasts for over 150 days a year, its average depth is 140-150cm, often reaching more than 2m. The average temperature in winter is -3C.

Pamporovo is situated at an altitude of 1650m above sea level, at the foot of Snejanka peak (1926m high) and it is the beginning of many ski tracks.

Conditions for skiing
In the area of Pamporovo, the snow days are over 150 a year and the snow cover is steady, reaching up to 2m. The season appropriate for skiing and snowboarding starts from the end of November and lasts till the end of April.

The ski courses near Pamporovo are situated at an altitude of 1925m and 2000m above sea level. They have different degrees of difficulty and the total lenght thereof is over 18,000m. For the lovers of ski running and biathlon there are courses near Snejanka peak, and there is also a shooting range at the Yazovira region. The cableways and ski-lifts of the ski courses have the capacity og 8,500 persons an hour.

The resort has several ski schools offering highly-qualified instruction in skiing and snowboarding at various levels. Both national and international competitions are held here - Alpine disciplines, ski running, ski orientation, biathlon as well as the greatest Bulgarian competiotions in snowboarding - free style.

Smolyan
Smolyan - the administrative centre of the region is situated 11km to the South of Pamporovo. The town is a student's and yout's lively centre, offering a various possibilities for entertainment and cultural events.
