Sárospatak boasts the best thermal spa in the Zemplén region of Hungary which attracts many tourists from the neighboring countries. This resort is open all the year round which includes swimming pools, restaurants and camping facilities.

Sárospatak castle and many other castles in the region, the rivers Bodrog and Tisza, Tokaj town (home to the famous Tokaj wine) are well worth a visit.

Unique for fishing, hiking in the hills, wine tasting, horse riding, cycling, nature trails, water sports as well as river cruises and private boat hire. Not to mention the great local cuisine and hospitality of the locals who are always willing to help.

Skiing facilities are available at Sátor hegy in Sátoraljaújhely where Hungary’s longest chair-lift operates. (Snow conditions vary.)

For those more serious skiers Zakopane in Poland is approximately 8 hours drive including stops.

Previous volcanic activity remains can be found scattered around the Zemplén region judging by the cones and peak like hill tops.

Sárospatak for instance has its own crater lake, Tengerszem, once used as a pummis-stone mine and Sátoraljaújhely’s Sátor hegy back in 1780 showed the last sounds of activity as worried onlookers took for their lives after hearing gurgling and whooshing sounds coming from the mountain but all has remained dormant since.
